World War I, also known as the Great War, was a global conflict that lasted from 28 July 1914 to 11 November 1918. In addition, there were around 21 million wounded soldiers, many of whom would suffer from long-term disabilities. Civilian casualties were also high, with an estimated 6 million deaths and 13 million wounded.
World War II Casualties
World War II was an even more destructive conflict, with an estimated 70-85 million fatalities. The war lasted from 1939 to 1945 and involved the majority of the world's nations, including all of the great powers. The total number of military personnel killed during the war was around 21 million, with an additional 7 million dying as a result of war-related famine and disease. Civilian casualties were also high, with estimates ranging from 38-55 million deaths.
The Holocaust
One of the most horrific events of World War II was the Holocaust, in which an estimated 6 million Jews were systematically murdered by the Nazi regime. Other groups, including Romani people, disabled individuals, and homosexuals, were also targeted for extermination. The Holocaust remains one of the deadliest genocides in human history.
Other Conflicts
While World War I and II were two of the deadliest conflicts in history, there have been numerous other wars and conflicts that have claimed countless lives. The Vietnam War, for example, lasted from 1955 to 1975 and resulted in an estimated 1.3 million deaths. The Korean War, which lasted from 1950 to 1953, resulted in around 1.2 million deaths. The ongoing conflict in Syria has also claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.

Remembrance Day, also known as Armistice Day, is observed on 11 November to commemorate the end of World War I. It is a time to honor the fallen and to reflect on the horrors of war.
